The Cruel Sea601 viewsTug Roysterer with HMS Coreopsis (or RHS Kriezis) about to achieve fame playing the part of HMS Compass Rose. 1952.
Finding a suitable corvette was another problem The Admiralty, while anxious to co-operate in the making of the film, had got rid of all its wartime corvettes. Eventually one was located in Malta – the Coreopsis of the Flower Class – which had been loaned to the Greek navy and was now awaiting a tow back to England, and the breaker’s yard.

On This Day 601 viewsLt George Carroll - Hero of Mosta - died 23 May 2012

Lt Carroll (pictured left) is believed to have been responsible for tackling more unexploded bombs than any other Royal Engineers bomb disposal officer in World War II, across all theatres of war.

Remarkably, he was the only bomb disposal officer from the Army, Navy and Air Force active during the siege of Malta not to be decorated, though this did not bother him.
