HMT Cheshire

On leaving Malta in 1954 we, as a family, travelled back to UK in Cheshire docking in Liverpool. The ship not only carried families but also a lot of troops returning from a tour in Egypt.

One often sees commercially owned and civilian manned troopships given the fancy prefix HMT, which is intended to give them Royal pretensions, but in fact, not being commissioned ships, can stand for nothing more than Hired Military Transport. Nice picture though!
