Question for the Tigne cognoscenti: Here the clock tower fronts on to the Parade Ground, which is now occupied by the Point shopping centre, but it has a "military" facade to the south west. So, were other buildings in front of the clock tower in our day?

In front of....? If you mean where the parade ground was, then no - it was exactly as shown on the 1970 map (good map that). The buildings behind the clock (facing Sliema Creek to the s-w on the map) are mqs, those to the south are barracks (and the families Naafi in the 60s/70s near the round tower). On the far side of the p-g above Tigne Beach club were the GOC's (General Officer Commanding, Malta = the most senior army officer) and his deputy's houses (squatted in the 90s).

So the facade showing on the right HERE has been moved from somewhere else?

In my day the families NAAFI (which was very basic) I think I have a photo of it was near the round tower. The NAAFI we are looking at in the picture was the soldiers wet canteen and the JNCOs Bar.

That facade has been baffling me since I saw it last year. It looks as if it's always been there, but am sure it hasn't - and it's not fixed to anything else except by metal straps. It wasn't there to my recollection so where's it been moved from? Officers' Mess up Tigne St? Someone at Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna might know.

In my time (63-66) this was Tigne School and the clock tower was there then. I also have a photo of this building I took in '89 and the tower was still extant. The gap between the two buildings lead down a slope to C Block flats where we lived.
