Most of Dubai's towers were built on empty desert. Malta's seem to be replacing everything of character!

Ghar-id-Dud means Cave of Worms. Compare with can of worms.

I'm sure in 100 years' time it will be praised to the skies (excuse pun). Assuming it hasn't done a 'Balluta restaurant' before then.

Whose absolutly crackpot idea is that. Are they trying to turn Malta into just another holiday island while ruining the architecture and culture of a unique place?

That about sums it up nicely.

A comment was made with regard to Singapore which would equally apply here. They are knocking down all the tourist attractions to build hotels to put the tourists in.

A paradox, a paradox, a most ingenious paradox...ha ha ha ha ha etc...(G&S - Pirates).

This is just ghastly! It will be visible from Gozo, just like the ghastly Portomaso Tower in Paceville. At 38 storeys it would only be exceeded by the 40 storey twin tower block proposed at the site of the Officers Mess. The whole place has gone mad!!

I was looking round a photographic display in the Castille, and I commented to the receptionist what an eyesore the Portomaso Tower was, ruining the skyline, I was more or less told to go away and mind my own business, clearly the spirit of Anglo Maltese friendship was lacking here. Grahame, I can only agree with you.
