Bloody noisy things to be a passenger in! I was once and that was enough, summer of '66 with my Dad returning from UK on an 'Indulgence' (I think that was the term.)

Yes - Indulgence passages allowed service families off duty travel at bargain prices in both ships & aircraft. The only snag could be that you weren't guaranteed a return ticket.

True! We went home on that trip in an Argosy via Istres to refuel. Dad and i were the only passengers and I got to spend a long time watching the world go by in an observation blister in the nose. Sigh, memories, memories.
