Great set of photos of 2 Site, and well done for gaining access. As I said elsewhere, in 2012 I was not allowed in. Looks like the AFM have abandoned large parts of it now. On this particular photo our flat (1965/66) was top floor, and my bedroom window was the large window to the left of the two small windows which, in turn, are to the left of the tree.

It is still the AFM HQ. Oh to turn the clock back though! I am glad the pictures featured your flat, sad to see the site though.

During our time in Malta we lived in Sliema, Luqa village and then on 2 Site - and it was 2 Site that was certainly the best. Attractive environment, good flats and excellent neighbours whose friendship lasted well into subsequent postings, and then civvy street. Only drawback was that my girlfriend (turn the clock back? Oh, yes...!) lived on 1 Site.

For the benefit of us non-RAF types, where exactly was 1 Site?

1 Site was the main site for RAF Luqa (entrance at Google Maps coordinates 35.863487,14.482061) - airfield, operational buildings, officers' accommodation. From the roof of the officers' flats (35.864257,14.476943) there was a good view across the valley to Tal Handaq.

Roger, Wilco. That must have been an inspiring view! Out.

Our girlfriends lived on 1 site too. Many nights spent walking under the runway lights at all hours of the day and night!
