Where was this taken from Martin? Amazing that we never lost any adventurous little boys (or girls!) over the edge isn't it!!

From the bottom end of the field - you can see this ditch and the little hut (on left) in the foreground of your aerial shot on Verdala.com front page. I got the cane aged 6 for throwing stones over the bastion wall by A block in my first week at the school. Nobody had bothered to tell me it wasn't allowed!! That was Cdr Brookes - my Mum was outraged (by the cane, not by the stone-throwing).

Bring back the cane !

Yes OB it is amazing, they would have a fit today. When you look back at the things we used to get up to, caves/shelters under Tigne, wandering around rifle ranges, spending days out on working dockyard boats, the H&S bods would have a fit. To say nothing of kids sailing around the Medi on RFA tankers.

You would have been quite safe on an RFA tanker, but I know what you mean. Wrapping kids in cotton wool doesn't do them any good.
And as my father was prone to say, if you lose one or two along the way its "one less to feed!"

How many did he lose? And cotton-wool is definitely carcinogenic.
