I witnessed a similar event in 1960 but in Grand Harbour opposite the lift courtyard area. In those days, if you selected the wrong gear as the driver did, there was nothing to prevent the car going for a swim! I also saw an American style jeep fail to take the bend on the road where Pieta and Msida creeks met (single carriage way in those days). That too ended up in the oggin!

I can recall one going over the edge there in Sliema Creek as well, wonder if anyone was ever hurt. Think if you went out about 10' it was enough to submerge the car.
