Admin - Blow the Caronia, what have you done with our palm tree?
Prefect   [May 31, 2010 at 01:41 AM]
Wrong direction. We are looking at the eastern side of St Angelo and Kalkara Creek. That must be St Edwards, not Verdala.

Whoops! .................. (Edited with second thoughts four days later) ........... Is St Edward's on the skyline? And looking at a map, surely if this picture was taken from near the harbour entrance yes that's the entrance to Kalkara Creek at the left but we're looking across Vittoriosa to our bit of skyline behind Cospicua?! I ask again, where's our palm tree?!
Prefect   [Jun 06, 2010 at 12:22 AM]
I reckon the photo is taken from Marina Wharf somewhere below Victoria Gate. The line of bearing across the funnels of the tug is about 135 degrees true which when extended cuts the Cottonera Lines well to the left of St Clement's Bastion. Anyway even if you are right (as Misses always are) the palm tree was still in its youth in 1950, vide Les Hutton Photo 1945. (See also pic of Dockyard Creek on page 8 of Then & Now, taken from Verdala Barracks which illustrates the position of Verdala relative to Vittoriosa and Senglea.)

1950 - yes, hadn't hoisted that in. That explains the lack of height! You've left me behind with the bearings bit but I'd still say .............. !

Such was my plan!! I will attempt to reproduce the view later this month and we will see.
