In 1962 I was an ATC cadet in No.1 (Overseas) Squadron based at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus. In July that year we had 2 weeks summer camp at Ta Qali. I recall stories of a curved wall on the airfield that acted as a sounding board. Axis bombers could be heard taking off from Sicily and the wall provided 40 minutes warning of the attack. I have fancied that I actually saw that wall - or, with the passage of time, have I dreamt the whole thing? Can't see it here...

You didn't dream it Ivan, but it wasn't at Ta Qali and wasn't quite as effective as that. Its still there near Gharghur. See here. Oddly enough I took a photo a few weeks ago. See new uploads. Its here on the map.
